My Life Tapestry
June 2009
I am preparing for the 4th Annual North Side All Class Reunion Picnic at North Park June 27th, while visting my son and his family in New Hampshire. Ahhh technology!!
After reading the article that came out in the Jackson Sun paper Sunday, June 7th, about North Siders getting together weekly on Tuesday's at Redbones, I am reminded how our past relationship affect our current ones. Each person that travels through leaves behind a bit of themselves while taking a some of us with them.
I look forward to seeing everyone this year at the Annual Reunion Picnic. GO INDIANS!!!
December 2008
As this year comes to an end and the new one right around the corner, I find myself reviewing, revisiting and remembering many of the previous years. Many of you have fond memories from childhood, surrounding family, foods, festivities and all that the holidays brought to your life. As we go into the next segment of our life, may we find that place that allows us to BE while at the same time we find it in ourselves a way to allow the same for others .. a place to just BE.
July 2008
I returned to Jackson, Tennessee in 2003, after being away for nearly 25 years. Major life challenges and changes created a longing to return to the place that I call home. Those life changing challenges birthed in me an extreme longing to connect with classmates, to touch my past, remember who I am and who had touched my life.
The many hats that I have worn and continue to wear are too numerous to list, but the one that I find the most rewarding is NSHS Alumni president ... to see the faces of classmates that reconnect after many years ... the delight in their laughter brings a smile to my face and unexplainable joy to my spirit.
While trying to find my niche in life, I have mothered over 100 children and parented two wonderful children of my own. Foster parenting helped me touch the lives of many children and to afford them 'TIME' to just BE ... just be children without worries of being harmed or where the next meal was coming from. Fostering also touched my life in ways that I can only express in song and through my art.
...Expand for more
My children showed me, that the quality of life 'IS' in the quantity of time shared and invested. My son Samuel Lucas is now 28, with a daughter of his own, Skylee 6. My daughter Anna Oliver is 18 and is now embracing motherhood with her newborn daughter, October Rose. My childern are the best reasons I have for 'being'. When I look at them, I remember who I am. I also have two step children and step grandson.
INTERESTS ... not sure there is enough room for them ... Let's see ... 1st would have to be making sure my family has what they need, I am a serious wife, homemaker and mother.
2nd would have to be staying connected, whether with the world wide web, classmates (reunions), friends, children etc.
3rd would be music, I am a wannabe performer and I go out as often as I can and Karaoke. I also rewrite songs, making them fit what I feel they are saying, sometimes without ever having heard the original.
4th would be again communicating, only this time in written form. I love to express myself in word and have plans for publication.
5th would be anything to do with nature ... the texture, the color, the scents, the energy it gives off. I JUST LOVE RIVER ROCKS, they have a story to tell ... how they came to be so smooth ... where they have traveled ... what they saw along the way ... much like us.
MUSIC ... now I know there is NOT enough room for that one, so let's just say the only music that I don't like is the music that seems to only have conflict with no resolution.
MOVIES ... all time favorite 'It's A Wonderful Life' which has been a mainstay in my life for years. 'You've Got Mail' .. OH .. MY .. GOD .. can you relate? 'The Story Of Us' (wipes a tear) and 'Family Man' if we all had a chance to see that 'glimpse'.
TELEVISION ... I have discovered Reba and Still Standing reruns ... just love them and classic old movies and romantic movies.
BOOKS ... Ceasar Millan the Dog Whisperer and Nonverbal Communication in Human Interaction by Mark L. Knapp.
HEROS ... my heros are those that live life close to nature, can fix most anything, calm in nature and a genuine spirit, Harley riders, oh and Norm Abram!
